Claude is a free IT tool from tech startup Anthropic. This artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot aims to provide human-like conversations through the use of machine learning and natural language processing. As an online platform, it also has the capacity to learn, making it more effective the more it is used in general.

Generally, Claude is a viable alternative to ChatGPT and other similar apps such as Perplexity AI. Shortly after its release, it made headlines by passing exams for law and economics. Still, it has a couple of linguistic restrictions that could be improved in time.

A smarter, more natural chatbot

Claude was developed by Anthropic, a startup co-founded by former OpenAI employees, the developers of ChatGPT. Technically, it is also a statistical bot that was trained on large volumes of information to predict words that are relevant in response to a text prompt provided by the user. Still, compared to the OpenAI tool, it’s more casual in tone and tends to refuse inappropriate requests.

As for the app, it works like most AI chatbots. It features a simple and straightforward layout that provides a space for users to type in their prompt. It can be a question, as in asking another person, or it can be a request for something like an essay or even a poem. It takes a couple of seconds to respond, although it can take longer for specific requests.

Lastly, it can get restrictive since not everyone can access the tool from the Anthropic website. Apart from its web app incarnation, it’s also only available as a Slack integration, letting you wield the AI chatbot’s ability to submit reports or respond to inquiries via the communication platform. Also, it has more restrictions compared to its contemporaries, partly because of the constitutional AI approach that sets rules in its usage.

A worthy ChatGPT alternative

Overall, Claude is a potentially effective alternative to ChatGPT. It promises a more naturally sounding bot to respond to your chats and text prompts—all in a more casual tone than its competitors. On the plus side, this constitutional AI is developed with a unique set of principles, creating another set of restrictions for certain users. Still, as far as its capability to respond is concerned, it can still develop.
